I'm new to the travel industry, but not new to travel (100+ countries) and I wanted to work part-time during retirement and figured that doing something I'm passionate about would be a great way to combine business and pleasure.I researched dozens of host agencies prior to making a commitment and felt that Outside Agents (OA) would be a great fit for me. Their initial cost was very, very low. They have no monthly fees or minimum sales requirements. I can work as much or as little as I want without any penalties. While I have no industry experience to help me benchmark their programs, my experience with them has been reasonably good. They have lots of material available for newbies. It will take me several 40+ hour weeks to digest just a portion of it. It became obvious to me that being a travel agent, even a part-time agent, requires some effort. But, enjoying travel as I do I believe it will be an effort that I'll really be comfortable making.
My connections with people at OA have been good. While everyone is not always immediately available, they get back to me.
I think their commission schedule was as good any any agency I researched. However, I didn't choose OA because of this. I chose them because I believed that their initial sign-up cost and monthly fees were the absolute lowest of any of the more reputable agencies I researched. I also felt that their policy of "we get paid when you get paid" meant that they would be committed, perhaps even more than I would be, to my financial success. After signing up with them I believe that they give people plenty of tools to work with and enough assistance with those tools to make it very realistic that people can be successful with the program they offer if they really want to.
I'm glad I signed up with Outside Agents.
